Gabrielle Feuersinger, a San Francisco native, moved back home in 2007 to open her own cake design business. After training in baking and pastry at the California Culinary Academy here in San Francisco, she worked in Seattle at the W Hotel under the direction of Pastry Chef Sue McCown. Here, her eyes were opened to the wonderful world of cake decorating.
Los Angeles proved to be an appropriate place for Gabrielle to further her decorating experience, where she helped construct some of the most extravagant cake projects in the industry. Working for Cake Divas, a prestigious cakery in Los Angeles, Gabrielle made everything from traditional wedding and birthday cakes to custom pieces, like a 4-foot-tall replica of the famous Bob’s Big Boy statue and a re-creation of an entire television show set.
“I love the crazy projects, but I find myself drawn more to ornamental art for inspiration,” Gabrielle says. Her inspiration comes from many mediums such as baroque ornaments, Victorian wall papers, Moroccan pottery and Faberge jewelry. Gabrielle’s mother is a clothing designer, so fabrics and textiles also provide inspiration for her. Growing up, Gabrielle was encouraged to experiment with art, so naturally she found a way to incorporate her love of baking with her artistic background.
