Louis Vuitton trunk anyone? With some Manolos and a Chanel neclace? Can you have a more fabulous birthday cake? I loved getting orders in LA for sweet sixteen party cakes that were in the shape of Beamers and Porches. The best part was they were getting the cake and then surprise, the REAL car is out back. So I was thinking, maybe if sculpt myself a Mercedes G500...it might miraculously show up at my birthday party. Don't worry, I wouldn't really get a SUV... but wouldn't it be cute with a big Cake Coquette logo on the side?

The SPCA Celebrates 140 Years

Happy Anniversary SPCA! When I dropped off this cake, Laura, the events coordinator was nice enough to give me a little tour of Maddie's Pet Adoption Center on 250 Florida street. I can't believe how great this place is. For someone who's not especially an animal person and didn't even know where the SPCA was located, I was blown away with the beautiful facilites. The dogs and cats look so happy and cute, but...yeah, still not ready for any pets.

An Architectural Cake

The San Francisco Planning & Urban Research Association, or SPUR for short, commissioned this architectural cake. It is a representation of their newest South of Market building project, based on the architectural model and color renderings of the yet-to-be-started structure. The cake is one-and-a-half feet tall and three feet long. It will be featured, and eaten, tonight at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts during a "Groundbreaking Celebration," during which a symbolic golden shovel will be used to cut the cake and inaugurate this exciting urban development.

Spring Flowers

Since today is the first day of Spring, I thought it would be appropriate to talk about flowers and mention my new friend Karen Hsu of Grandiflora. I recently went to Bouquets to Art at the De Young Museum to see how innovative florists can create amazing arrangements inspired by the fine arts. The show sadly only lasts a week due to the short life of the fresh flowers, but hey, if you are thinking in wedding terms, they only need to last a few days! After the show I was thoroughly ispired and anxious to meet florists in the Bay Area that are doing something different. Here are just a few examples of Karen Hsu's work that is inspired from her training in ikebana, an ancient Japanese art of floral arrangement, that emphasizes on the sculptural composition in design.

First San Francisco Bridal Show

When seeking out event planner Michelle Barrionuevo-Mazzini for her obvious clout in the SF wedding industry, I was blown away when she asked me (after our first meeting) if I wanted to be a part of her 3rd annual bridal show Promises and Pearls. I jumped on the chance and was so impressed with how she transformed the SF Design Center into a beautiful wedding showcase. Awesome Photographer Augie Chang let me use some of his shots of the nignt. Thanks!

Exciting News

Monday March 3 (at 5:30 AM) I drove down to Los Angeles with two fake cakes for a photo shoot with YWD (Your Wedding Day) Magazine.This is such a huge deal for me because not only is YWD my favorite bridal magazine out there, but this is the first time Cake Coquette cakes will be featured in a national magazine. Huge!
I arrived at noon to the location of the shoot, which is the 20th Century Props warehouse in NorthHollywood . This place is an interior decorator's dream. It is filled from floor to ceiling with every type of furniture imaginable from all eras. Three event designers were choosen to create 2 sets each, using the amazing props, to evoke a certain era and look for a wedding. So six sets were being made and I provided cakes for two of them.
I assume that everything is confidential so you'll have to wait for the magazine to come out, and everyone I know will hear about that.
