Tiffany Boxes

I haven't heard the outcome yet, but a real Tiffany box with an engagement ring was hidden among these 72 mini Tiffany box cakes at the Ritz Carlton in Halfmoon Bay. The plan...a proposal. Lucky girl, that's just a little romantic! To top it off, Halfmoon Bay is usually shrouded in fog, but it must have been the hottest day of the year that day. I have no doubt the answer was yes!

Exposed- Confessions of a Wedding Photographer

Claire Lewis author of Exposed - Confessions of a Wedding Photographer asked me to make these cupcakes for her book launch party last Friday. She was recreating a kitchy wedding party with a DJ and everything. The party was getting pretty wild when I left. Best of luck to Claire with her book.
The venue was Rayko Photo Center in San Francisco which is a professional, community photographic facility in the South of Market but also a really great venue space. The coolest feature of the facility was the old time photo booth which still takes pictures like it did when it was made. I couldn't resist and took one with a wedding hat.

Wedding Anniversary Part 2- The Dress

Although this blog has nothing to do with cake, it does have to do with weddings. My mother, whose card I have posted, is an amazing dress designer. My whole life I have sported around in one of a kind dresses and had been waiting for the day that my mom and I would design my wedding dress together. This is what we dreamed up. It was of course stunning and couture. Now my mom is pretty low key, for example she has no website and never plans on having one, and she only wants to design something original. If you mistake her as a seamstress she'll probably hang up on you (she's French too by the way), but she will make a dress for you that will fit better than anything you could buy and no one in the world will have anything like it.

Wedding Anniversary

June 2 was my one year wedding anniversay. I decided not to freeze my topper (because 1 year frozen cake is nasty)and it's pretty easy for me to bake myself a cake. It was a gooey devil's food cake with raspberries in some tiers and mocha cream in others tiers.
I think everyone is familiar with my Morrocan wedding cake by now. Let's see...it is on my website (just a few times), in my borchures and displayed in a large frame at my office, and there it is again at the top of the page by my profile! Of course it was my wedding, but it still goes down as the best cake I've ever made.

NACE 50th Anniversary

Nace-cupcakes.jpg

The National Association of Catering Executives or NACE celebrated there 50th anniversary May 22 at the Palo Alto Hills Golf and Country Club. It was a great event and I met so many great industry professionals, which is what we are called now, thank you. But I think my favorite moment of the night was actually as I was leaving. Walking out into the warm night breeze and looking out at the beautiful valley in the moonlight was really breathtaking. The venue focuses on the beautiful golf course, but the other side of the club is just as striking. I am very grateful to be one of the preferred vendors at the club and so they asked me to provide some cupcakes for the event. Here are a few photos of the night.

Rhiannon's Dissertation

My great friend Rhiannon is graduating from UC Berkeley with a Doctorate in Italian tomorrow. She spent the last 7 years working on her dissertation, so for her graduation party we made her a cake in the shape of this dissertation with tears spilled upon it, tissues to dry those tears and broken pencils. This book caused just a few tears, but now it's complete and we are all proud of her! Congratulations Rhiannon!
